Depending on the type of sporting activity to be carried out there are one or other recommended floorings. Nowadays, there is not a sports floor for everything on the market, so the work of the technician who attends you is considered essential to cover your needs in an optimal way.
Below we will review the different indoor sports floors and for which situations they are recommended.
2 mm high traffic PVC: For a few years now, all sports managers have been using this material for their access and cardio areas. Its most important characteristics are its high resistance to wear and tear due to human traffic, its antibacterial capacity and its ease of cleaning. They are used as we have mentioned from the reception area to the dry changing rooms and transit area. They are also used in cardio equipment areas where this type of equipment is not too heavy, or in directed activity rooms where machines are used (spinning classes, steps…).
6 mm sports PVC: Used in directed activity rooms where no machines are used (zumba, pilates, yoga…), or in stretching rooms. As it is cushioned PVC, it is only suitable for this type of use, because if you put a machine on it, it would be marked.
PVC for wet areas: It is used as its name suggests for wet areas in sports centres. That is: changing rooms, shower areas, drying areas… Its installation is much more complicated than that of a normal pvc as these pvc's are often placed halfway up the wall. Tested and certified floors must be used to ensure that they are suitable for this type of area (R10 regulations on slip resistance, among others), in accordance with the specific regulations, which ensure the integrity of the users when moving over them.
Free weight tiles with click system: These are used for free weight areas, for lifting, or where heavy or very heavy machines are located (training stations, TRX, or 360). With their 2 cm thickness they absorb all types of impact and even serve as an acoustic barrier. In our R&D department we have developed a tile that does not need glues, so that the customer can assemble them himself and not damage the floor with glues. Not to mention its mobility and versatility in the facility.
Tatami tiles: these are used for rooms dedicated to karate, taekwondo, wrestling, etc., throwing and falling sports. Their puzzle-type tile system and their reversible capacity make them the most recommended floor for this type of room, which can be assembled and disassembled in minutes.
Summarizing by activities we have:
- Passageways, access and rooms of cardio and directed activities with machines: PVC of high transit of 2mm
- Free weight zones and plate machines: Rubber tiles with click system
- Stretching areas or directed activity rooms without machines;6 mm sports PVC
- Throwing and falling contact sports rooms: Reversible and removable tatami slabs
- Wet areas: Specific PVC for wet areas with a R10 classification, or anti-slip pad if not available.
With all this we gather all the needs that an installation can have regarding floors. They can be complemented by making some very elegant transitions playing with colours, thicknesses and even with the machinery and accessories that are installed (mats, carpets, crossfit grass, dumbbells, mirrors, lighting), as the whole will be what makes your sports centre stand out from the rest. We hope that this entry in our blog will help you to know a little more about the types of flooring and how a good technician can advise you in your sports facilities to get the most out of them without skimping on the aesthetic and visual aspects.
